The real reason
Why credentialing takes longer than it should
Provider enrollment takes 60–120 days with most commercial payers. The timeline you can't control is payer processing speed. The timeline you can control is submission quality.
Most credentialing delays come from the same handful of issues: an out-of-date CAQH profile, a malpractice certificate with the wrong dates, a name mismatch between the application and a supporting document. Each one sends the file back to pending status and restarts the review queue.
This checklist covers all of them. Work through it before you submit anything, and most of the controllable delays go away.
